GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Graduation Volunteers Needed

Graduation is a very exciting time for our students so we want to do all we can to make it that exciting experience. To do that takes a lot of help–this is where you all come in. Graduation is May 13, 2017 at the Arend Arts Center in Bentonville. Due to the large number of graduates this year we are going to be holding 4 ceremonies and need lots of volunteers! The ceremonies will be 9:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm. There is also set up that begins at 6:00 am and clean up that typically lasts about an hour after the last ceremony ends. Due to the number of different jobs there are many start and stop times. There is also a pre-graduation information session on May 10th at 1:00 pm for which we will need volunteers. To volunteer contact Becky Hudson at rhudson1@nwacc.edu. Be sure to note the times you are available.

Disability Resources closed 4/5-4/7 

The Disability Resource Center will be closed Wednesday 4/5, Thursday 4/6, and Friday 4/7 for training. In the event of a pressing need, staff will be available by phone at (479) 986-4076. Please contact us anytime by email at disability@nwacc.edu.

NWACC Transfer Visits at a Glance-April 2017

Representatives from area colleges and universities frequently visit NWACC to speak to transfer students about their future academic goals. While the vast majority of visitors come to the Transfer Information Desk on the 2nd floor in the Student Center, locations may vary. Please consult the attached flyer when making plans to visit with college/university recruiters.

The Transfer Coordinator is IN-April 

Owing to a scheduling conflict, the Transfer Coordinator NOT will be available at the Transfer Information Desk from 8:30 am – 10:00 am on April 6 (1st Thursday), but WILL BE back IN on April 17 (3rd Monday). This new service is designed to help students who have quick questions about the transfer process.

Glow In The Dark Dance Party 

The Student Ambassador and Activities Board is hosting a Glow In The Dark Dance Theme Party on Friday April 14th from 7-11 pm for NWACC students only. SAAB will provide FREE refreshments, games, and music. It will be a night full of fun and laughter. We hope to see you there.

17-18 FWS Position Request Available 

It is time to request a Federal Work-Study Position for the 2017-2018 aid year. If your department needs a federal work-study position beginning July 1 or beginning in August, now is the time to request the position. To request a federal work-study position for the 2017-2018 aid year: Log into My NWACC Connection – Click on Employee – Click on My Work – Click on Request a Work Study Position – Complete the form and submit. Rape Culture Presentation

NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-Shirts – Order Now 

The NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-shirts are ready for pre-order now. T-shirts come in two colors and are $12 for students and $15 for faculty, and the deadline to order is April 3. The Festival is April 19 and 20. Names of individuals who ordered T-shirts will be placed into a drawing for door prizes. Make checks to NWACC Foundation (write”SACF” in memo). Cash is fine. Payments and completed order forms (attached) should be dropped off at BH 1119 or with Juanita in Comm/Arts.

Golden Eagle Nominations Requested! 

The Golden Eagle is awarded 6 times per year to students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to education, leadership and service. This award earns the student recognition from the Board of Trustees, a $100 check, a plaque in the Golden Eagle case in the Student Center, and the opportunity to be selected as the Distinguished Golden Eagle at the end of the current academic year. The Distinguished Golden Eagle awards the recipient with a scholarship worth up to $1800 for the following academic year! ACC Academic All Star Scholarship 

Each year, an ACC Academic All Star award recipient will be chosen by committee and recognized in the fall at the statewide meeting of the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) as NWACC’s Academic All Star. Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements set by the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) organization and additional criteria set by the college.

This honor is accompanied by a $500 scholarship from the Academic All Star Endowment held by the NWACC Foundation. The recipient will also receive a stipend for travel and lodging for the AAC Conference. The stipend amount will be up to $500, dependent on endowment earnings.

Last year’s Academic All Star was also offered a full ride to complete her bachelor’s degree at UCA!

New Academic Calendar

The academic calendar has a new look and feel. You can view by the month, week or agenda. Select the drop down arrow in the upper right hand corner of the calendar to change the selections of what you would like to view. There is also a “Feedback” section in the upper left hand corner of the page that we would love for you to fill out! Be sure to go and check it out HERE!

NWACC’s Got Talent 

Every spring semester we host an event for NWACC students, faculty/staff to participate in a Talent Show. Auditions are held March 31st. Sign up sheets are posted around campus. Participates are able to invite friends and family members to the Talent Show.

Mozart is Dying 

A lecture recital “MOZART is DYING”: The Remarkable last days of Amadeus Mozart is slated for Thursday, March 30, 7PM at NWACC’s Shewmaker/Walmart Auditorium. It’s free! The NWACC Chamber Singers, Ryan Cockerham and his string quartet, and guest soloist will join conductor/music history storyteller Miles Fish for a look Mozart’s creative final weeks (including the posthumous Mozart Requiem) and feature performances of selected works. According to Fish, the NWACC “Mozart is Dying” event will include perform selected works with videos of the locations where the works were first performed. Kyrie from the Mass in C (St. Peter’s Church, Salzburg), a Haydn string quartet (Mozar’s apartment, Vienna), Introit from the Requiem (St. Michael’s Church and St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna), a Don Giovanni solo (Estates Theater, Prague), and The Magic Flute a solo (the Little Magic Flute House where Mozart composed Magic Flute). “Mozart is Dying” will be much like the “Amazing Mrs. Mozart” program Fish and the Chamber Singers presented last spring. Note: the “Mrs Mozart” program played to capacity crowd so it was moved from the NWACC Recital Hall to Shewmaker’s Walmart Auditorium.

The March 16th Pre-Nursing Student Advisement Session has been canceled. The next session will be Tuesday April 18th 2pm-4pm in the Center for Health Professions Room 1014.

30th Annual Small Works on Paper art exhibit

The NWACC Fine Art Department is very excited to be once again hosting the Small Works on Paper exhibit, as the third stop along its ten city, statewide journey. Now in its 30th year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council. The exhibit showcases artwork by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery curated by the AAC. Thirty-six works are featured in this yearlong show that will travel to 10 galleries throughout the state. We’ve hosted it several times over the years and it’s always a wonderfully diverse demonstration of Arkansas talent. Rent Your Faculty Regalia

Hello everyone! It is that time of year again! Graduation is fast approaching and the bookstore is ordering regalia. They need anyone needing to rent regalia to respond no later than April 3rd so they can make sure to get everything in store in time for commencement on May 13th. Nursing HESI A2 Exam Dates 

The HESI A2 entrance exam dates are as follows: April 10th 1 – 4:30, April 17th 1 – 4:30, April 20th 1 – 4:30, April 21st 2 – 5:30, April 24th 1 – 4:30. As a reminder, HESI registration forms will be sent to applicant NWACC emails. Please carefully follow the directions outlined on the form.

Mental health is a key part of your overall health. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a mental health professional – it’s a checkup from your neck up. 2017 Dick Trammel Outstanding Alumni Award Nomination 

Named in honor of community volunteer, highway commissioner, and former College Trustee, Dick Trammel, this award seeks to recognize an outstanding NWACC alum who has achieved success in his or her career field and made a positive impact on the community. The selected award recipient will be recognized during the annual NWACC commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Please see attached document to complete a nomination.

NWACC Scholarship Reviewers NEEDED! 

The NWACC Scholarship Office need faculty and staff reviewers for our 2017-2018 scholarships. Reviews will run from March through May. We know everyone is busy, but this is important to our students so it should be important to us too. The process is simple and completely digital with ample time to complete the reviews. Mindfulness NWACC 

Definition: Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while without judgement, calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensation. What can practicing mindfulness accomplish? From UC Berkeley’s Greater Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life website, mindfulness has a number of benefits which include boosting our immune system, reducing stress, tuning out distractions, improving our memory and attention skills, fostering compassion, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and fighting obesity. Mindfulness NWACC will explore various mindfulness techniques to help us navigate our day-to-day circumstances as each moment arises for a more meaningful and positive life. Mindfulness NWACC is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The group will offers two meeting times per week which participants can choose to attend one or both meetings weekly. The Wednesday meeting will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the TLC, BH 1324 beginning February 8, and the Monday morning meeting time will be from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in TLC, BH 1324.. College Algebra Workshops – Spring 2017 

This spring the Math Center will be offering workshops on graphing calculators, test anxiety, function transformations, word problems, and logarithms & exponential functions. Pinwheel Rally

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County has again chosen our training center to be the location for the Pinwheel Rally for child abuse prevention and intervention month.  The rally will be in our parking lot on March 31st at 11:30 a.m.  See attached flyer for more details!

New Media Certificates Available

Ready to work in the Media Industry? NorthWest Arkansas Community College now offers to two Certificates in Media: Certificate of Proficiency – Media (only 5 classes) and Technical Certificate – Media (only 10 classes). These certificates are building blocks for an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing. Each certificate includes courses in: Design I, Video Production and Editing, Digital Photography. Students then select other courses from: * Graphic Design * Journalism * Film Arts * Mass Communication * Internship To support these certificates or to join the staff of the student newspaper, students have the option* of taking two 1-credit hour classes: Student Newspaper Lab and Newspaper Layout & Design (only meets FOUR times!) NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.

2017 President’s Circle Art Exhibition

Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar, Bentonville The President’s Circle will host an art exhibition in partnership with Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar featuring artworks by NWACC alumni and current students April 1 – 30, 2017. Inter-Club Council (ICC) 

The Inter-Club Council, (ICC), is a group established by the Student Government Association that includes representatives from every campus club. Please join them once a month to hear what other campus clubs are doing and to learn about opportunities, such as funding, available to organizations. Any club member or adviser is welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings. 30th Annual Small Works on Paper art exhibit

The NWACC Fine Art Department is very excited to be once again hosting the Small Works on Paper exhibit, as the third stop along its ten city, statewide journey. Now in its 30th year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council. The exhibit showcases artwork by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery curated by the AAC. Thirty-six works are featured in this yearlong show that will travel to 10 galleries throughout the state. We’ve hosted it several times over the years and it’s always a wonderfully diverse demonstration of Arkansas talent. Nursing HESI A2 Exam Dates 

The HESI A2 entrance exam dates are as follows: April 10th 1 – 4:30, April 17th 1 – 4:30, April 20th 1 – 4:30, April 21st 2 – 5:30, April 24th 1 – 4:30. As a reminder, HESI registration forms will be sent to applicant NWACC emails. Please carefully follow the directions outlined on the form.

2017 Dick Trammel Outstanding Alumni Award Nomination 

Named in honor of community volunteer, highway commissioner, and former College Trustee, Dick Trammel, this award seeks to recognize an outstanding NWACC alum who has achieved success in his or her career field and made a positive impact on the community. Mindfulness NWACC 

Definition: Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while without judgement, calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensation. What can practicing mindfulness accomplish? From UC Berkeley’s Greater Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life website, mindfulness has a number of benefits which include boosting our immune system, reducing stress, tuning out distractions, improving our memory and attention skills, fostering compassion, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and fighting obesity. Mindfulness NWACC will explore various mindfulness techniques to help us navigate our day-to-day circumstances as each moment arises for a more meaningful and positive life. Mindfulness NWACC is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The group will offers two meeting times per week which participants can choose to attend one or both meetings weekly. New Media Certificates Available

Ready to work in the Media Industry? NorthWest Arkansas Community College now offers to two Certificates in Media: Certificate of Proficiency – Media (only 5 classes) and Technical Certificate – Media (only 10 classes). These certificates are building blocks for an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing. Each certificate includes courses in: Design I, Video Production and Editing, Digital Photography. Students then select other courses from: * Graphic Design * Journalism * Film Arts * Mass Communication * Internship To support these certificates or to join the staff of the student newspaper, students have the option* of taking two 1-credit hour classes: Student Newspaper Lab and Newspaper Layout & Design (only meets FOUR times!) NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. The Inter-Club Council, (ICC), is a group established by the Student Government Association that includes representatives from every campus club. Math Center Workshops this coming week (NEW)

NWACC Transfer Visits at a Glance-April 2017

Representatives from area colleges and universities frequently visit NWACC to speak to transfer students about their future academic goals. While the vast majority of visitors come to the Transfer Information Desk on the 2nd floor in the Student Center, locations may vary. Please consult the attached flyer when making plans to visit with college/university recruiters.

The Transfer Coordinator is IN-April 

Owing to a scheduling conflict, the Transfer Coordinator NOT will be available at the Transfer Information Desk from 8:30 am – 10:00 am on April 6 (1st Thursday), but WILL BE back IN on April 17 (3rd Monday). This new service is designed to help students who have quick questions about the transfer process.

Glow In The Dark Dance Party 

The Student Ambassador and Activities Board is hosting a Glow In The Dark Dance Theme Party on Friday April 14th from 7-11 pm for NWACC students only. SAAB will provide FREE refreshments, games, and music. It will be a night full of fun and laughter. We hope to see you there.

The NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-shirts are ready for pre-order now. T-shirts come in two colors and are $12 for students and $15 for faculty, and the deadline to order is April 3. Golden Eagle Nominations Requested! 

The Golden Eagle is awarded 6 times per year to students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to education, leadership and service. This award earns the student recognition from the Board of Trustees, a $100 check, a plaque in the Golden Eagle case in the Student Center, and the opportunity to be selected as the Distinguished Golden Eagle at the end of the current academic year. The Distinguished Golden Eagle awards the recipient with a scholarship worth up to $1800 for the following academic year! ACC Academic All Star Scholarship 

Each year, an ACC Academic All Star award recipient will be chosen by committee and recognized in the fall at the statewide meeting of the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) as NWACC’s Academic All Star. Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements set by the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) organization and additional criteria set by the college.

This honor is accompanied by a $500 scholarship from the Academic All Star Endowment held by the NWACC Foundation. The recipient will also receive a stipend for travel and lodging for the AAC Conference. The stipend amount will be up to $500, dependent on endowment earnings.

Last year’s Academic All Star was also offered a full ride to complete her bachelor’s degree at UCA!

NWACC’s Got Talent 

Every spring semester we host an event for NWACC students, faculty/staff to participate in a Talent Show. Auditions are held March 31st. Sign up sheets are posted around campus. Participates are able to invite friends and family members to the Talent Show.

Mozart is Dying 

A lecture recital “MOZART is DYING”: The Remarkable last days of Amadeus Mozart is slated for Thursday, March 30, 7PM at NWACC’s Shewmaker/Walmart Auditorium. It’s free! The NWACC Chamber Singers, Ryan Cockerham and his string quartet, and guest soloist will join conductor/music history storyteller Miles Fish for a look Mozart’s creative final weeks (including the posthumous Mozart Requiem) and feature performances of selected works. According to Fish, the NWACC “Mozart is Dying” event will include perform selected works with videos of the locations where the works were first performed. Kyrie from the Mass in C (St. Peter’s Church, Salzburg), a Haydn string quartet (Mozar’s apartment, Vienna), Introit from the Requiem (St. Michael’s Church and St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna), a Don Giovanni solo (Estates Theater, Prague), and The Magic Flute a solo (the Little Magic Flute House where Mozart composed Magic Flute). “Mozart is Dying” will be much like the “Amazing Mrs. Mozart” program Fish and the Chamber Singers presented last spring. Note: the “Mrs Mozart” program played to capacity crowd so it was moved from the NWACC Recital Hall to Shewmaker’s Walmart Auditorium.

NWACC offers private professional counseling to students through a partnership with area agencies and universities. NWACC Transfer Visits at a Glance-April 2017 (NEW)

Representatives from area colleges and universities frequently visit NWACC to speak to transfer students about their future academic goals. While the vast majority of visitors come to the Transfer Information Desk on the 2nd floor in the Student Center, locations may vary. Please consult the attached flyer when making plans to visit with college/university recruiters.

The Transfer Coordinator is IN-April (NEW)

Owing to a scheduling conflict, the Transfer Coordinator NOT will be available at the Transfer Information Desk from 8:30 am – 10:00 am on April 6 (1st Thursday), but WILL BE back IN on April 17 (3rd Monday). This new service is designed to help students who have quick questions about the transfer process.

Glow In The Dark Dance Party 

The Student Ambassador and Activities Board is hosting a Glow In The Dark Dance Theme Party on Friday April 14th from 7-11 pm for NWACC students only. SAAB will provide FREE refreshments, games, and music. It will be a night full of fun and laughter. We hope to see you there.

NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-Shirts – Order Now 

The NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-shirts are ready for pre-order now. T-shirts come in two colors and are $12 for students and $15 for faculty, and the deadline to order is April 3. Golden Eagle Nominations Requested! 

The Golden Eagle is awarded 6 times per year to students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to education, leadership and service. This award earns the student recognition from the Board of Trustees, a $100 check, a plaque in the Golden Eagle case in the Student Center, and the opportunity to be selected as the Distinguished Golden Eagle at the end of the current academic year. The Distinguished Golden Eagle awards the recipient with a scholarship worth up to $1800 for the following academic year! Jack Shewmaker Lecture Series Guest Speaker 

The NWACC Enactus team will host guest speaker Colonel Bobbi Doorenbos as a part of the ongoing Jack Shewmaker Lecture Series. This event will be held on Tuesday, March 28th in Peterson Auditorium in the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development. Refreshments will be provided at a catered reception starting at 6:30pm and the speaker will commence at 7:00pm. All students, faculty, staff, and the general public are invited!

ACC Academic All Star Scholarship 

Each year, an ACC Academic All Star award recipient will be chosen by committee and recognized in the fall at the statewide meeting of the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) as NWACC’s Academic All Star. Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements set by the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) organization and additional criteria set by the college.

This honor is accompanied by a $500 scholarship from the Academic All Star Endowment held by the NWACC Foundation. The recipient will also receive a stipend for travel and lodging for the AAC Conference. The stipend amount will be up to $500, dependent on endowment earnings.

Last year’s Academic All Star was also offered a full ride to complete her bachelor’s degree at UCA!

NWACC’s Got Talent 

Every spring semester we host an event for NWACC students, faculty/staff to participate in a Talent Show. Auditions are held March 31st. Sign up sheets are posted around campus. Participates are able to invite friends and family members to the Talent Show.

Mozart is Dying 

A lecture recital “MOZART is DYING”: The Remarkable last days of Amadeus Mozart is slated for Thursday, March 30, 7PM at NWACC’s Shewmaker/Walmart Auditorium. It’s free! The NWACC Chamber Singers, Ryan Cockerham and his string quartet, and guest soloist will join conductor/music history storyteller Miles Fish for a look Mozart’s creative final weeks (including the posthumous Mozart Requiem) and feature performances of selected works. According to Fish, the NWACC “Mozart is Dying” event will include perform selected works with videos of the locations where the works were first performed. Kyrie from the Mass in C (St. Peter’s Church, Salzburg), a Haydn string quartet (Mozar’s apartment, Vienna), Introit from the Requiem (St. Michael’s Church and St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna), a Don Giovanni solo (Estates Theater, Prague), and The Magic Flute a solo (the Little Magic Flute House where Mozart composed Magic Flute). “Mozart is Dying” will be much like the “Amazing Mrs. Mozart” program Fish and the Chamber Singers presented last spring. Note: the “Mrs Mozart” program played to capacity crowd so it was moved from the NWACC Recital Hall to Shewmaker’s Walmart Auditorium.

30th Annual Small Works on Paper art exhibit

The NWACC Fine Art Department is very excited to be once again hosting the Small Works on Paper exhibit, as the third stop along its ten city, statewide journey. Now in its 30th year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council. The exhibit showcases artwork by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery curated by the AAC. Thirty-six works are featured in this yearlong show that will travel to 10 galleries throughout the state. We’ve hosted it several times over the years and it’s always a wonderfully diverse demonstration of Arkansas talent. Nursing HESI A2 Exam Dates 

The HESI A2 entrance exam dates are as follows: April 10th 1 – 4:30, April 17th 1 – 4:30, April 20th 1 – 4:30, April 21st 2 – 5:30, April 24th 1 – 4:30. As a reminder, HESI registration forms will be sent to applicant NWACC emails. Please carefully follow the directions outlined on the form.

2017 Dick Trammel Outstanding Alumni Award Nomination 

Named in honor of community volunteer, highway commissioner, and former College Trustee, Dick Trammel, this award seeks to recognize an outstanding NWACC alum who has achieved success in his or her career field and made a positive impact on the community. The selected award recipient will be recognized during the annual NWACC commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Please see attached document to complete a nomination.

Mindfulness NWACC 

Definition: Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while without judgement, calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensation. What can practicing mindfulness accomplish? From UC Berkeley’s Greater Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life website, mindfulness has a number of benefits which include boosting our immune system, reducing stress, tuning out distractions, improving our memory and attention skills, fostering compassion, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and fighting obesity. Mindfulness NWACC will explore various mindfulness techniques to help us navigate our day-to-day circumstances as each moment arises for a more meaningful and positive life. Mindfulness NWACC is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The group will offers two meeting times per week which participants can choose to attend one or both meetings weekly. The Wednesday meeting will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the TLC, BH 1324 beginning February 8, and the Monday morning meeting time will be from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in TLC, BH 1324.. College Algebra Workshops – Spring 2017

Pinwheel Rally

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County has again chosen our training center to be the location for the Pinwheel Rally for child abuse prevention and intervention month.  The rally will be in our parking lot on March 31st at 11:30 a.m.  See attached flyer for more details!

New Media Certificates Available

Ready to work in the Media Industry? NorthWest Arkansas Community College now offers to two Certificates in Media: Certificate of Proficiency – Media (only 5 classes) and Technical Certificate – Media (only 10 classes). These certificates are building blocks for an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing. Each certificate includes courses in: Design I, Video Production and Editing, Digital Photography. Students then select other courses from: * Graphic Design * Journalism * Film Arts * Mass Communication * Internship To support these certificates or to join the staff of the student newspaper, students have the option* of taking two 1-credit hour classes: Student Newspaper Lab and Newspaper Layout & Design (only meets FOUR times!) NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.

UAFS Transfer Day at NWACC–Monday, March 27 | 10:00 – 1:00 | Student Center, room 108 

The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith is bringing the Admissions/Advising process to NWACC for transfer students. At UAFS Transfer Day @ NWACC, students can expect the following: application to UAFS, official transcript evaluation, and one-on-one advising. Questions about financial aid, housing, and making the transition to UAFS for either summer or fall 2017 will be answered. Although students can apply for admission at the event, it is best to complete the application beforehand (http://admissions.uafs.edu/admissions/apply-now). Students are encouraged to bring an official copy of their NWACC transcript, as well. 30th Annual Small Works on Paper art exhibit

The NWACC Fine Art Department is very excited to be once again hosting the Small Works on Paper exhibit, as the third stop along its ten city, statewide journey. Now in its 30th year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council. The exhibit showcases artwork by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery curated by the AAC. Thirty-six works are featured in this yearlong show that will travel to 10 galleries throughout the state. We’ve hosted it several times over the years and it’s always a wonderfully diverse demonstration of Arkansas talent. Nursing HESI A2 Exam Dates 

The HESI A2 entrance exam dates are as follows: April 10th 1 – 4:30, April 17th 1 – 4:30, April 20th 1 – 4:30, April 21st 2 – 5:30, April 24th 1 – 4:30. As a reminder, HESI registration forms will be sent to applicant NWACC emails. Please carefully follow the directions outlined on the form.

The Transfer Coordinator is IN–March 

The Transfer Coordinator will be available at the Transfer Information Desk from 8:30 am – 10:00 am on March 2nd (1st Thursday) and March 20th (3rd Monday) during this month. This new service is designed to help students who have quick questions about the transfer process.

2017 Dick Trammel Outstanding Alumni Award Nomination 

Named in honor of community volunteer, highway commissioner, and former College Trustee, Dick Trammel, this award seeks to recognize an outstanding NWACC alum who has achieved success in his or her career field and made a positive impact on the community. Mindfulness NWACC 

Definition: Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while without judgement, calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensation. What can practicing mindfulness accomplish? From UC Berkeley’s Greater Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life website, mindfulness has a number of benefits which include boosting our immune system, reducing stress, tuning out distractions, improving our memory and attention skills, fostering compassion, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and fighting obesity. Mindfulness NWACC will explore various mindfulness techniques to help us navigate our day-to-day circumstances as each moment arises for a more meaningful and positive life. Mindfulness NWACC is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The group will offers two meeting times per week which participants can choose to attend one or both meetings weekly. Pinwheel Rally

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County has again chosen our training center to be the location for the Pinwheel Rally for child abuse prevention and intervention month.  The rally will be in our parking lot on March 31st at 11:30 a.m.  See attached flyer for more details!

New Media Certificates Available

Ready to work in the Media Industry? NorthWest Arkansas Community College now offers to two Certificates in Media: Certificate of Proficiency – Media (only 5 classes) and Technical Certificate – Media (only 10 classes). These certificates are building blocks for an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing. Each certificate includes courses in: Design I, Video Production and Editing, Digital Photography. Students then select other courses from: * Graphic Design * Journalism * Film Arts * Mass Communication * Internship To support these certificates or to join the staff of the student newspaper, students have the option* of taking two 1-credit hour classes: Student Newspaper Lab and Newspaper Layout & Design (only meets FOUR times!) NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.

Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar, Bentonville The President’s Circle will host an art exhibition in partnership with Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar featuring artworks by NWACC alumni and current students April 1 – 30, 2017. The Inter-Club Council, (ICC), is a group established by the Student Government Association that includes representatives from every campus club. The NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-shirts are ready for pre-order now. T-shirts come in two colors and are $12 for students and $15 for faculty, and the deadline to order is April 3. Golden Eagle Nominations Requested! 

The Golden Eagle is awarded 6 times per year to students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to education, leadership and service. This award earns the student recognition from the Board of Trustees, a $100 check, a plaque in the Golden Eagle case in the Student Center, and the opportunity to be selected as the Distinguished Golden Eagle at the end of the current academic year. The Distinguished Golden Eagle awards the recipient with a scholarship worth up to $1800 for the following academic year! Jack Shewmaker Lecture Series Guest Speaker 

The NWACC Enactus team will host guest speaker Colonel Bobbi Doorenbos as a part of the ongoing Jack Shewmaker Lecture Series. This event will be held on Tuesday, March 28th in Peterson Auditorium in the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development. Refreshments will be provided at a catered reception starting at 6:30pm and the speaker will commence at 7:00pm. All students, faculty, staff, and the general public are invited!

ACC Academic All Star Scholarship 

Each year, an ACC Academic All Star award recipient will be chosen by committee and recognized in the fall at the statewide meeting of the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) as NWACC’s Academic All Star. Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements set by the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) organization and additional criteria set by the college.

This honor is accompanied by a $500 scholarship from the Academic All Star Endowment held by the NWACC Foundation. The recipient will also receive a stipend for travel and lodging for the AAC Conference. The stipend amount will be up to $500, dependent on endowment earnings.

Last year’s Academic All Star was also offered a full ride to complete her bachelor’s degree at UCA!

NWACC’s Got Talent 

Every spring semester we host an event for NWACC students, faculty/staff to participate in a Talent Show. Auditions are held March 31st. Sign up sheets are posted around campus. Participates are able to invite friends and family members to the Talent Show.

UAFS Transfer Day at NWACC–Monday, March 27 | 10:00 – 1:00 | Student Center, room 108 

The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith is bringing the Admissions/Advising process to NWACC for transfer students. At UAFS Transfer Day @ NWACC, students can expect the following: application to UAFS, official transcript evaluation, and one-on-one advising. Questions about financial aid, housing, and making the transition to UAFS for either summer or fall 2017 will be answered. Although students can apply for admission at the event, it is best to complete the application beforehand (http://admissions.uafs.edu/admissions/apply-now). Students are encouraged to bring an official copy of their NWACC transcript, as well. A lecture recital “MOZART is DYING”: The Remarkable last days of Amadeus Mozart is slated for Thursday, March 30, 7PM at NWACC’s Shewmaker/Walmart Auditorium. It’s free! The NWACC Chamber Singers, Ryan Cockerham and his string quartet, and guest soloist will join conductor/music history storyteller Miles Fish for a look Mozart’s creative final weeks (including the posthumous Mozart Requiem) and feature performances of selected works. College Algebra Workshops – Spring 2017 

This spring the Math Center will be offering workshops on graphing calculators, test anxiety, function transformations, word problems, and logarithms & exponential functions. Pinwheel Rally

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County has again chosen our training center to be the location for the Pinwheel Rally for child abuse prevention and intervention month.  The rally will be in our parking lot on March 31st at 11:30 a.m.  See attached flyer for more details!

New Media Certificates Available

Ready to work in the Media Industry? NorthWest Arkansas Community College now offers to two Certificates in Media: Certificate of Proficiency – Media (only 5 classes) and Technical Certificate – Media (only 10 classes). These certificates are building blocks for an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing. Each certificate includes courses in: Design I, Video Production and Editing, Digital Photography. Students then select other courses from: * Graphic Design * Journalism * Film Arts * Mass Communication * Internship To support these certificates or to join the staff of the student newspaper, students have the option* of taking two 1-credit hour classes: Student Newspaper Lab and Newspaper Layout & Design (only meets FOUR times!) NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.

2017 President’s Circle Art Exhibition

Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar, Bentonville The President’s Circle will host an art exhibition in partnership with Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar featuring artworks by NWACC alumni and current students April 1 – 30, 2017. The Inter-Club Council, (ICC), is a group established by the Student Government Association that includes representatives from every campus club. The NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-shirts are ready for pre-order now. T-shirts come in two colors and are $12 for students and $15 for faculty, and the deadline to order is April 3. The Festival is April 19 and 20. Names of individuals who ordered T-shirts will be placed into a drawing for door prizes. Make checks to NWACC Foundation (write”SACF” in memo). Cash is fine. Golden Eagle Nominations Requested! 

The Golden Eagle is awarded 6 times per year to students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to education, leadership and service. This award earns the student recognition from the Board of Trustees, a $100 check, a plaque in the Golden Eagle case in the Student Center, and the opportunity to be selected as the Distinguished Golden Eagle at the end of the current academic year. The Distinguished Golden Eagle awards the recipient with a scholarship worth up to $1800 for the following academic year! Jack Shewmaker Lecture Series Guest Speaker 

The NWACC Enactus team will host guest speaker Colonel Bobbi Doorenbos as a part of the ongoing Jack Shewmaker Lecture Series. This event will be held on Tuesday, March 28th in Peterson Auditorium in the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development. Refreshments will be provided at a catered reception starting at 6:30pm and the speaker will commence at 7:00pm. All students, faculty, staff, and the general public are invited!

ACC Academic All Star Scholarship 

Each year, an ACC Academic All Star award recipient will be chosen by committee and recognized in the fall at the statewide meeting of the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) as NWACC’s Academic All Star. Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements set by the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) organization and additional criteria set by the college.

This honor is accompanied by a $500 scholarship from the Academic All Star Endowment held by the NWACC Foundation. The recipient will also receive a stipend for travel and lodging for the AAC Conference. The stipend amount will be up to $500, dependent on endowment earnings.

Last year’s Academic All Star was also offered a full ride to complete her bachelor’s degree at UCA!

NWACC’s Got Talent 

Every spring semester we host an event for NWACC students, faculty/staff to participate in a Talent Show. Auditions are held March 31st. Sign up sheets are posted around campus. Participates are able to invite friends and family members to the Talent Show.

UAFS Transfer Day at NWACC–Monday, March 27 | 10:00 – 1:00 | Student Center, room 108 

The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith is bringing the Admissions/Advising process to NWACC for transfer students. At UAFS Transfer Day @ NWACC, students can expect the following: application to UAFS, official transcript evaluation, and one-on-one advising. Questions about financial aid, housing, and making the transition to UAFS for either summer or fall 2017 will be answered. Although students can apply for admission at the event, it is best to complete the application beforehand (http://admissions.uafs.edu/admissions/apply-now). Students are encouraged to bring an official copy of their NWACC transcript, as well. Mozart is Dying 

A lecture recital “MOZART is DYING”: The Remarkable last days of Amadeus Mozart is slated for Thursday, March 30, 7PM at NWACC’s Shewmaker/Walmart Auditorium. It’s free! The NWACC Chamber Singers, Ryan Cockerham and his string quartet, and guest soloist will join conductor/music history storyteller Miles Fish for a look Mozart’s creative final weeks (including the posthumous Mozart Requiem) and feature performances of selected works. According to Fish, the NWACC “Mozart is Dying” event will include perform selected works with videos of the locations where the works were first performed. Kyrie from the Mass in C (St. Peter’s Church, Salzburg), a Haydn string quartet (Mozar’s apartment, Vienna), Introit from the Requiem (St. Michael’s Church and St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna), a Don Giovanni solo (Estates Theater, Prague), and The Magic Flute a solo (the Little Magic Flute House where Mozart composed Magic Flute). “Mozart is Dying” will be much like the “Amazing Mrs. Mozart” program Fish and the Chamber Singers presented last spring. Note: the “Mrs Mozart” program played to capacity crowd so it was moved from the NWACC Recital Hall to Shewmaker’s Walmart Auditorium.

30th Annual Small Works on Paper art exhibit

The NWACC Fine Art Department is very excited to be once again hosting the Small Works on Paper exhibit, as the third stop along its ten city, statewide journey. Now in its 30th year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council. The exhibit showcases artwork by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery curated by the AAC. Thirty-six works are featured in this yearlong show that will travel to 10 galleries throughout the state. We’ve hosted it several times over the years and it’s always a wonderfully diverse demonstration of Arkansas talent. Nursing HESI A2 Exam Dates 

The HESI A2 entrance exam dates are as follows: April 10th 1 – 4:30, April 17th 1 – 4:30, April 20th 1 – 4:30, April 21st 2 – 5:30, April 24th 1 – 4:30. As a reminder, HESI registration forms will be sent to applicant NWACC emails. Please carefully follow the directions outlined on the form.

Mental health is a key part of your overall health. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a mental health professional – it’s a checkup from your neck up. The Transfer Coordinator is IN–March 

The Transfer Coordinator will be available at the Transfer Information Desk from 8:30 am – 10:00 am on March 2nd (1st Thursday) and March 20th (3rd Monday) during this month. This new service is designed to help students who have quick questions about the transfer process.

2017 Dick Trammel Outstanding Alumni Award Nomination 

Named in honor of community volunteer, highway commissioner, and former College Trustee, Dick Trammel, this award seeks to recognize an outstanding NWACC alum who has achieved success in his or her career field and made a positive impact on the community. The selected award recipient will be recognized during the annual NWACC commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Please see attached document to complete a nomination.

Mindfulness NWACC 

Definition: Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while without judgement, calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensation. What can practicing mindfulness accomplish? From UC Berkeley’s Greater Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life website, mindfulness has a number of benefits which include boosting our immune system, reducing stress, tuning out distractions, improving our memory and attention skills, fostering compassion, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and fighting obesity. Mindfulness NWACC will explore various mindfulness techniques to help us navigate our day-to-day circumstances as each moment arises for a more meaningful and positive life. Mindfulness NWACC is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The group will offers two meeting times per week which participants can choose to attend one or both meetings weekly. The Wednesday meeting will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the TLC, BH 1324 beginning February 8, and the Monday morning meeting time will be from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in TLC, BH 1324.. ACC Academic All Star Scholarship 

Each year, an ACC Academic All Star award recipient will be chosen by committee and recognized in the fall at the statewide meeting of the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) as NWACC’s Academic All Star. Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements set by the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) organization and additional criteria set by the college.

This honor is accompanied by a $500 scholarship from the Academic All Star Endowment held by the NWACC Foundation. The recipient will also receive a stipend for travel and lodging for the AAC Conference. The stipend amount will be up to $500, dependent on endowment earnings.

Last year’s Academic All Star was also offered a full ride to complete her bachelor’s degree at UCA!

NWACC’s Got Talent 

Every spring semester we host an event for NWACC students, faculty/staff to participate in a Talent Show. Auditions are held March 31st. Sign up sheets are posted around campus. Participates are able to invite friends and family members to the Talent Show.

UAFS Transfer Day at NWACC–Monday, March 27 | 10:00 – 1:00 | Student Center, room 108 

The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith is bringing the Admissions/Advising process to NWACC for transfer students. At UAFS Transfer Day @ NWACC, students can expect the following: application to UAFS, official transcript evaluation, and one-on-one advising. Questions about financial aid, housing, and making the transition to UAFS for either summer or fall 2017 will be answered. Although students can apply for admission at the event, it is best to complete the application beforehand (http://admissions.uafs.edu/admissions/apply-now). Students are encouraged to bring an official copy of their NWACC transcript, as well. Mozart is Dying 

A lecture recital “MOZART is DYING”: The Remarkable last days of Amadeus Mozart is slated for Thursday, March 30, 7PM at NWACC’s Shewmaker/Walmart Auditorium. It’s free! The NWACC Chamber Singers, Ryan Cockerham and his string quartet, and guest soloist will join conductor/music history storyteller Miles Fish for a look Mozart’s creative final weeks (including the posthumous Mozart Requiem) and feature performances of selected works. According to Fish, the NWACC “Mozart is Dying” event will include perform selected works with videos of the locations where the works were first performed. Kyrie from the Mass in C (St. Peter’s Church, Salzburg), a Haydn string quartet (Mozar’s apartment, Vienna), Introit from the Requiem (St. Michael’s Church and St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna), a Don Giovanni solo (Estates Theater, Prague), and The Magic Flute a solo (the Little Magic Flute House where Mozart composed Magic Flute). “Mozart is Dying” will be much like the “Amazing Mrs. Mozart” program Fish and the Chamber Singers presented last spring. Note: the “Mrs Mozart” program played to capacity crowd so it was moved from the NWACC Recital Hall to Shewmaker’s Walmart Auditorium.

30th Annual Small Works on Paper art exhibit

The NWACC Fine Art Department is very excited to be once again hosting the Small Works on Paper exhibit, as the third stop along its ten city, statewide journey. Now in its 30th year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council. The exhibit showcases artwork by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery curated by the AAC. Thirty-six works are featured in this yearlong show that will travel to 10 galleries throughout the state. We’ve hosted it several times over the years and it’s always a wonderfully diverse demonstration of Arkansas talent. Nursing HESI A2 Exam Dates 

The HESI A2 entrance exam dates are as follows: April 10th 1 – 4:30, April 17th 1 – 4:30, April 20th 1 – 4:30, April 21st 2 – 5:30, April 24th 1 – 4:30. As a reminder, HESI registration forms will be sent to applicant NWACC emails. Please carefully follow the directions outlined on the form.

The Transfer Coordinator is IN–March 

The Transfer Coordinator will be available at the Transfer Information Desk from 8:30 am – 10:00 am on March 2nd (1st Thursday) and March 20th (3rd Monday) during this month. This new service is designed to help students who have quick questions about the transfer process.

2017 Dick Trammel Outstanding Alumni Award Nomination 

Named in honor of community volunteer, highway commissioner, and former College Trustee, Dick Trammel, this award seeks to recognize an outstanding NWACC alum who has achieved success in his or her career field and made a positive impact on the community. The selected award recipient will be recognized during the annual NWACC commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Please see attached document to complete a nomination.

Mindfulness NWACC 

Definition: Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while without judgement, calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensation. What can practicing mindfulness accomplish? From UC Berkeley’s Greater Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life website, mindfulness has a number of benefits which include boosting our immune system, reducing stress, tuning out distractions, improving our memory and attention skills, fostering compassion, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and fighting obesity. Mindfulness NWACC will explore various mindfulness techniques to help us navigate our day-to-day circumstances as each moment arises for a more meaningful and positive life. Mindfulness NWACC is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The group will offers two meeting times per week which participants can choose to attend one or both meetings weekly. The Wednesday meeting will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the TLC, BH 1324 beginning February 8, and the Monday morning meeting time will be from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in TLC, BH 1324.. College Algebra Workshops – Spring 2017

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County has again chosen our training center to be the location for the Pinwheel Rally for child abuse prevention and intervention month.  The rally will be in our parking lot on March 31st at 11:30 a.m.  See attached flyer for more details!

New Media Certificates Available

Ready to work in the Media Industry? NorthWest Arkansas Community College now offers to two Certificates in Media: Certificate of Proficiency – Media (only 5 classes) and Technical Certificate – Media (only 10 classes). These certificates are building blocks for an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing. Each certificate includes courses in: Design I, Video Production and Editing, Digital Photography. Students then select other courses from: * Graphic Design * Journalism * Film Arts * Mass Communication * Internship To support these certificates or to join the staff of the student newspaper, students have the option* of taking two 1-credit hour classes: Student Newspaper Lab and Newspaper Layout & Design (only meets FOUR times!) NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.

Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar, Bentonville The President’s Circle will host an art exhibition in partnership with Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar featuring artworks by NWACC alumni and current students April 1 – 30, 2017. The Inter-Club Council, (ICC), is a group established by the Student Government Association that includes representatives from every campus club. We will be accepting nominations for the Honorary Associate Degree until March 28.  Please consider nominating someone in the community who has been supportive of NWACC and is a leader in the community.  We want to reward exemplary service and leadership in our area.  The honorary degree is awarded to select individuals who, beyond normal occupational pursuits, exemplify a high caliber of service and truly enhance the quality of life in our community. Golden Eagle Nominations Requested! 

The Golden Eagle is awarded 6 times per year to students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to education, leadership and service. This award earns the student recognition from the Board of Trustees, a $100 check, a plaque in the Golden Eagle case in the Student Center, and the opportunity to be selected as the Distinguished Golden Eagle at the end of the current academic year. The Distinguished Golden Eagle awards the recipient with a scholarship worth up to $1800 for the following academic year! Named in honor of community volunteer, highway commissioner, and former College Trustee, Dick Trammel, this award seeks to recognize an outstanding NWACC alum who has achieved success in his or her career field and made a positive impact on the community. Mindfulness NWACC 

Definition: Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while without judgement, calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensation. What can practicing mindfulness accomplish? From UC Berkeley’s Greater Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life website, mindfulness has a number of benefits which include boosting our immune system, reducing stress, tuning out distractions, improving our memory and attention skills, fostering compassion, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and fighting obesity. Mindfulness NWACC will explore various mindfulness techniques to help us navigate our day-to-day circumstances as each moment arises for a more meaningful and positive life. Mindfulness NWACC is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The group will offers two meeting times per week which participants can choose to attend one or both meetings weekly. The Wednesday meeting will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the TLC, BH 1324 beginning February 8, and the Monday morning meeting time will be from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in TLC, BH 1324.. College Algebra Workshops – Spring 2017

Pinwheel Rally

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County has again chosen our training center to be the location for the Pinwheel Rally for child abuse prevention and intervention month.  The rally will be in our parking lot on March 31st at 11:30 a.m.  See attached flyer for more details!

New Media Certificates Available

Ready to work in the Media Industry? NorthWest Arkansas Community College now offers to two Certificates in Media: Certificate of Proficiency – Media (only 5 classes) and Technical Certificate – Media (only 10 classes). These certificates are building blocks for an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing. Each certificate includes courses in: Design I, Video Production and Editing, Digital Photography. Students then select other courses from: * Graphic Design * Journalism * Film Arts * Mass Communication * Internship To support these certificates or to join the staff of the student newspaper, students have the option* of taking two 1-credit hour classes: Student Newspaper Lab and Newspaper Layout & Design (only meets FOUR times!) NWACC Chamber Orchestra

NWACC Chamber Orchestra has openings for all string players, including violin, viola, ‘cello, and string bass. Non-students of all ages within the community are welcome, but we have a limited number of scholarships available for both music majors, as well as non-music majors. Orchestra meets every Wednesday 6:00-8:30 PM beginning spring semester 2017.

Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar, Bentonville The President’s Circle will host an art exhibition in partnership with Two25 Art Gallery & Wine Bar featuring artworks by NWACC alumni and current students April 1 – 30, 2017. System Maintenance Dates (NEW)

NWACC will be performing system maintenance on Saturday morning 3/18/17 from 3:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 3/19/17 from 3:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. CT. During that time, Eaglenet, Banner, and Argos will be unavailable.

NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-Shirts – Order Now (NEW)

The NWACC Spring Arts and Culture Festival T-shirts are ready for pre-order now. T-shirts come in two colors and are $12 for students and $15 for faculty, and the deadline to order is April 3. The Festival is April 19 and 20. Names of individuals who ordered T-shirts will be placed into a drawing for door prizes. Make checks to NWACC Foundation (write”SACF” in memo). Cash is fine. Payments and completed order forms (attached) should be dropped off at BH 1119 or with Juanita in Comm/Arts.

Golden Eagle Nominations Requested! 

The Golden Eagle is awarded 6 times per year to students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to education, leadership and service. This award earns the student recognition from the Board of Trustees, a $100 check, a plaque in the Golden Eagle case in the Student Center, and the opportunity to be selected as the Distinguished Golden Eagle at the end of the current academic year. The Distinguished Golden Eagle awards the recipient with a scholarship worth up to $1800 for the following academic year! Jack Shewmaker Lecture Series Guest Speaker 

The NWACC Enactus team will host guest speaker Colonel Bobbi Doorenbos as a part of the ongoing Jack Shewmaker Lecture Series. This event will be held on Tuesday, March 28th in Peterson Auditorium in the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development. Refreshments will be provided at a catered reception starting at 6:30pm and the speaker will commence at 7:00pm. All students, faculty, staff, and the general public are invited!

ACC Academic All Star Scholarship 

Each year, an ACC Academic All Star award recipient will be chosen by committee and recognized in the fall at the statewide meeting of the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) as NWACC’s Academic All Star. Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements set by the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) organization and additional criteria set by the college.

This honor is accompanied by a $500 scholarship from the Academic All Star Endowment held by the NWACC Foundation. The recipient will also receive a stipend for travel and lodging for the AAC Conference. The stipend amount will be up to $500, dependent on endowment earnings.

Last year’s Academic All Star was also offered a full ride to complete her bachelor’s degree at UCA!

NWACC’s Got Talent 

Every spring semester we host an event for NWACC students, faculty/staff to participate in a Talent Show. Auditions are held March 31st. Sign up sheets are posted around campus. Participates are able to invite friends and family members to the Talent Show.

UAFS Transfer Day at NWACC–Monday, March 27 | 10:00 – 1:00 | Student Center, room 108 

The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith is bringing the Admissions/Advising process to NWACC for transfer students. At UAFS Transfer Day @ NWACC, students can expect the following: application to UAFS, official transcript evaluation, and one-on-one advising. Questions about financial aid, housing, and making the transition to UAFS for either summer or fall 2017 will be answered. Although students can apply for admission at the event, it is best to complete the application beforehand (http://admissions.uafs.edu/admissions/apply-now). Students are encouraged to bring an official copy of their NWACC transcript, as well. By attending UAFS Transfer Day @ NWACC, you will be fully ready to begin your academic career at UAFS in summer or fall 2017. For questions, please email admissions@uafs.edu, or call 479-788-7120. Mozart is Dying 

A lecture recital “MOZART is DYING”: The Remarkable last days of Amadeus Mozart is slated for Thursday, March 30, 7PM at NWACC’s Shewmaker/Walmart Auditorium. It’s free! The NWACC Chamber Singers, Ryan Cockerham and his string quartet, and guest soloist will join conductor/music history storyteller Miles Fish for a look Mozart’s creative final weeks (including the posthumous Mozart Requiem) and feature performances of selected works. According to Fish, the NWACC “Mozart is Dying” event will include perform selected works with videos of the locations where the works were first performed. Kyrie from the Mass in C (St. Peter’s Church, Salzburg), a Haydn string quartet (Mozar’s apartment, Vienna), Introit from the Requiem (St. Michael’s Church and St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna), a Don Giovanni solo (Estates Theater, Prague), and The Magic Flute a solo (the Little Magic Flute House where Mozart composed Magic Flute). “Mozart is Dying” will be much like the “Amazing Mrs. Mozart” program Fish and the Chamber Singers presented last spring. Note: the “Mrs Mozart” program played to capacity crowd so it was moved from the NWACC Recital Hall to Shewmaker’s Walmart Auditorium.

30th Annual Small Works on Paper art exhibit

The NWACC Fine Art Department is very excited to be once again hosting the Small Works on Paper exhibit, as the third stop along its ten city, statewide journey. Now in its 30th year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council. The exhibit showcases artwork by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery curated by the AAC. Thirty-six works are featured in this yearlong show that will travel to 10 galleries throughout the state. We’ve hosted it several times over the years and it’s always a wonderfully diverse demonstration of Arkansas talent. Nursing HESI A2 Exam Dates 

The HESI A2 entrance exam dates are as follows: April 10th 1 – 4:30, April 17th 1 – 4:30, April 20th 1 – 4:30, April 21st 2 – 5:30, April 24th 1 – 4:30. As a reminder, HESI registration forms will be sent to applicant NWACC emails. Please carefully follow the directions outlined on the form.

Mental health is a key part of your overall health. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a mental health professional – it’s a checkup from your neck up. The Transfer Coordinator is IN–March 

The Transfer Coordinator will be available at the Transfer Information Desk from 8:30 am – 10:00 am on March 2nd (1st Thursday) and March 20th (3rd Monday) during this month. This new service is designed to help students who have quick questions about the transfer process.

While the vast majority of visitors come to the Transfer Information Desk on the 2nd floor in the Student Center, locations may vary. NWACC Food Pantry Spring Distribution Dates Announced

The NWACC Food Pantry provides help to NWACC students, faculty and staff throughout the year. Food distribution is every other Wednesday and Thursday, beginning January 25, 2017. The Pantry distribution times will be by appointment. A three-day supply of food is provided with each request. All persons requesting assistance must have an initial application on file with the Office of Student Life. Applications for assistance can be picked up at the Student Information Center in the Becky Paneitz Student Center or at the Office of Student Life in Room 225 H in the Becky Paneitz Student Center. Each request requires a completed Distribution Request form. Distribution Request forms must be turned in at the Office of Student Life no later than 3:30 p.m. on the Monday before distribution. Request forms can be picked up at the Student Information Center in the Becky Paneitz Student Center or at the Office of Student Life in Room 225 H in the Becky Paneitz Student Center. In emergency cases, food may be distributed outside of normal distribution times. Distribution dates are listed in the attachment. Free Counseling for Students

NWACC offers private professional counseling to students through a partnership with area agencies and universities.
